The University of South Florida is proud to announce that the University of South Florida College of Medicine, through the Office of Continuing Professional Development, is an official Training Center of the American Heart Association (AHA).

The following AHA courses are offered by our USF Training Center:

  • Basic Life Support for the Healthcare Provider (BLS)
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
  • Heartsaver Courses

These courses include both the certification and renewal courses in each of these disciplines, and also includes skill check-offs for certification and renewal for those who take the online versions of the above courses.

Over the past 2 years, the USF College of Medicine has been using the advanced human patient simulators in the ACLS training of the medical students and have shown increased competency and skill retention of the ACLS skills and knowledge with the use of these simulators. Until recently this technology has been available only to the medical student population, but now USF has partnered with a group of experienced BLS and ACLS instructors out in the community to expand the use of this technology to the healthcare providers both within and out of the USF community.

  • If you are a medical student in need of certification in BLS and or ACLS, please email Frederick L. Slone, M.D. at fslone@health.usf.edu.

  • For all others seeking courses for certification or renewal in BLS, ACLS, or Heartsaver, please send an email to fslone@health.usf.edu and you will be directed to an instructor that is associated with the USF training center. Also, if there are any problems or complaints with any instructor, please email fslone@health.usf.edu with that complaint or problem.
The USF Training Center Coordinator is Frederick L. Slone, M.D. If there are any questions, compliments or problems pertaining to the USF Training Center or any of its associated Training Sites, please email Dr. Slone at fslone@health.usf.edu
