Update in Allergy and Immunology 2009

Saturday, October 17, 2009
Westin Harbour Island
Tampa, Florida

Sponsored by

USF Health

Gap Analysis Summary / Needs Assessment

Anaphylaxis is a life-threatening condition that is commonly seen in emergency departments and primary care offices. However, recognition and appropriate treatment of anaphylaxis is often delayed or mishandled. There is a gap in clinical practice of the appropriate identification and effective treatment of anaphylaxis according to established practice parameters. Significant co-morbid conditions that complicate upper airway diseases and asthma also often go unrecognized. Gastroesophageal reflux, sleep apnea, and viral infections often complicate the evaluation and treatment of upper and lower airway diseases. There is a gap in the appreciation of significant co-morbid conditions that commonly contribute to exacerbations of rhinosinusitis and asthma.

Course Description

The purpose of the Update in Allergy and Immunology symposium is to educate primary care physicians and other healthcare professionals who evaluate and treat adults and children with difficult allergic and immunologic problems. This year’s program will focus on the latest breakthroughs and recommendations for the evaluation and management of anaphylaxis, asthma, chronic itch, and chronic cough. All course content will be aligned with the Clinical Competencies of the American Board of Allergy and Immunology as well as the Practice Guidelines of the NIH and the American Academy of Asthma, Allergy, and Immunology.
