Course Description
 

Basic Life Support (BLS) is offered by the Office of Continuing Professional Development in conjunction with the Center for Advanced Clinical Learning at the University of South Florida College of Medicine.  This course is based on the most current American Heart Association (AHA) guidelines for performing CPR. Healthcare provider CPR courses meet the requirements for nurses, physicians and all healthcare providers working in the clinical setting.

There are two different courses:

  1. Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers Certification Course which is 4½ hours
  2. Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers Renewal Course which is a 3 hour course. To take the renewal course you must have a current BLS Card and you must take the course prior to the expiration date of your card.

An AHA BLS Healthcare provider card will be provided upon successful completion of the course content, skills performance, and completion  of a written knowledge assessment tool.

AHA BLS cards are valid for 2 years.

Target Audience
 

This course is designed for physicians, nurses, and other healthcare providers requiring BLS (CPR) Certification.

 



Accreditation
 

Upon successful completion of the BLS certification or renewal course, CE credits will be given upon request and payment.

A fee of $35.00 will be applied to individuals requesting CE credits.

Physicians:
The University of South Florida College of Medicine is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide continuing medical education for physicians. The University of South Florida College of Medicine designates this educational activity for a maximum of 4 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™,  for the BLS Certification Course and a maximum of 3 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™,  for the BLS renewal course. Physicians should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

Nurses:
The University of South Florida College of Nursing is accredited as a provider of continuing nursing education by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation. This activity is for 4 contact hours for the for the Certification Course and a maximum of 3 contact hours for the BLS Renewal Course.

Course Fees
 

Course Fees will depend on the particular course you choose and will be listed next to the course you choose on the Registration Page.

The following statement is a disclaimer from the American Heart Association:

"The American Heart Association strongly promotes knowledge and proficiency in BLS, ACLS, and PALS and has developed instructional materials for this purpose. Use of these materials in an educational course does not represent course sponsorship by the American Heart Association. Any fees charged for such a course, except for a portion of fees needed for AHA course materials, do not represent income to the Association."

 

 

Registration
 

Class size is limited, so please register early.  Registration and payment are online only.  Course registration must be completed 10 days prior to the course selected.  Students registering for the course with less than 10 days prior to the course date will be subject to a $10.00 late registration processing fee.

Cancellation of course must be completed 7 days prior to the date of the course in writing to the course director at the address identified above.  A $25.00 administrative processing fee will be withheld.  Failure to provide timely notification of course changes or cancellation may result in forfeit of all registration fees.  A student may choose to switch registration to another date providing space is available. 

USF Health reserves the right to cancel these seminars due to unforeseen circumstances. In the case of cancellation, a full refund will be given to participants. The USF Health will not be responsible for travel expenses incurred by the participant due to the seminar cancellation.
