This course is designed to impart evidence based, up to date, comprehensive educational tools that are designed, and then evaluated, for their role in improving the learners’ competence, performance and the overall quality and safety of the care they give to individuals suffering from a variety of primary painful conditions and pain related to comorbidities. |

| Needs Assessment |

Headache and Pain remain highly prevalent conditions that are under-diagnosed and treated. There are developing educational activities and tools that are designed, and then evaluated, for their role in improving the learners’ competence, performance and the overall quality and safety of the care they give to individuals suffering from head, neck and orofacial pain.
Advanced knowledge and recognition of barriers, different syndromes and available comprehensive treatment will result in improved outcomes for those who suffer with pain. |

This program is specifically designed for physicians, dentists, midlevel practitioners, nurses, psychologists, pharmacists, case managers, and any other health professionals interested in the management of Pain Medicine.

| Objectives |
| |
| Upon completion of this CME activity, the participant should be able to: |
- Discuss recent advances in the understanding and management of headache
mechanisms and treatment
- Describe the role of radiofrequency in cervicogenic headache
- Explain the use of neurostimulation in the treatment of headache unveiling
recent advances in this technique
- Differentiate migraine from other neurovascular disorders
- Recognize the impact of headache and pain in the multiple sclerosis patient
- Identify signs and symptoms to maximize accurate diagnosis of facial pain
- Describe interventional treatments of facial pain and their clinical applications
- Utilize existing paradigms established for the management of oncological
pain including optimal opioid use, adjuvant medications and interventional
techniques
- Distinguish the diagnosis and recent treatment options in managing
fibromyalgia and neuropathic pain

Physicians: This activity has been planned and implemented in accordance with the EssentialAreas and
Policies of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) through the joint
sponsorship of the USF Health and Tampa General Hospital. USF Health is accredited by the ACCME to
provide continuing medical education for physicians.
The USF Health designates this educational activity for a maximum of 7.25 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. Each physician should claim only those credits that he/she actually spent in the activity.
Nurses: The University of South Florida College of Nursing is accredited as a provider of
continuing nursing education by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on
Accreditation. This activity is for a maximum of 7.25 contact hours.
Psychologists: The University of South Florida College of Medicine is approved by the American
Psychological Association to offer continuing education for psychologists. This activity is offered for
up to 8 hours of continuing education credit. The University of South Florida College of Medicine
maintains responsibility for this program and its content.
Pharmacists: The University of South Florida College of Medicine is accredited by the
Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education as a provider of continuing pharmacy
education. This program has been approved for 7.25 contact hours. Universal program
number is as follows: 230-000-08-004-L01-P.
To receive continuing education credit, a pharmacist must attend the accredited sessions and must
return the program evaluation instrument. In order to receive full credit, registrants must register
no later than 10 minutes after the start of the meeting and must attend the entire meeting.
All Participants who are requesting Pharmacy Credit should expect to receive their statement of
credit either on-site or within 4 weeks by U.S. Mail upon the conclusion of the activity.
Dentists: An AMA PRA Category 1 certificate of attendance will be awarded and is accepted by the
Florida Board of Dentistry.
Case Managers: A form will be presented to the participant to submit for case manager credit. |

Registration includes program syllabus, continental breakfast, 2 breaks, and a light lunch. Upon receipt of your registration, a confirmation letter will be sent.
A refund (minus a processing fee of $20) will be given if written notice of cancellation
is received on or prior to October 9, 2009. No refunds will be given for written
cancellation requests received after October 9, 2009. |
