Cohen, MD is professor of medicine and public health at George Washington University and president emeritus of the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC).  He is a Director of the Washington Advisory Group and also serves as chairman of the board of the Arnold P. Gold Foundation for Humanism in Medicine.</p><p>As President and Chief Executive Officer of the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) from 1994 to 2006, Jordan J. Cohen, MD led the Association’s support and service to the nation’s medical schools and teaching hospitals.  He launched new initiatives in each of the association’s mission areas of education, research and patient care; expanded and modernized the AAMC’s services for medical students, applicants, residents, and constituents; strengthened the association’s communications, advocacy, and data gathering efforts, and established many initiatives for improving medical education and clinical care. As the voice of academic medicine for more than a decade, Dr. Cohen also spoke extensively on the need to promote greater racial and ethnic diversity in medicine, to uphold professional and scientific values, and to transform the nation’s health care system.</p><p>Prior to his leadership of the AAMC, he served as dean of the medical school and professor of medicine at the State University of New York at Stony Brook, and president of the medical staff at University Hospital.  Before that, Dr. Cohen was professor and associate chairman of Medicine at the University of Chicago-Pritzker School of Medicine, and physician-in-chief and chairman of the Department of Medicine at the Michael Reese Hospital and Medical Center. </p><p>Dr. Cohen currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Josiah Macy Jr. Foundation of New York, the Morehouse School of Medicine, the National Medical Fellowships, the National Library of Medicine, and the Qatar Foundation for Education, Science & Community Development.  He is a former chair of the American Board of Internal Medicine and of the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education, and served as president of the Association of Program Directors of Internal Medicine.</p><p>Dr. Cohen is a graduate of Yale University and Harvard Medical School and completed his postgraduate training in internal medicine on the Harvard service at the Boston City Hospital. His research centers on the design of alternative e-learning environments, with a current focus on storytelling and game-based approaches to teaching and learning. </p><p>Based on his work, Dr. Hirumi has published over a dozen refereed journal articles, nine book chapters and has made over 100 presentations at international, national and state conferences on related topics. Riffee, PhD</strong><br><em>Dean <br>College of Pharmacy<br>University of Florida<br>Gainesville, FL</em></p><p>Dr. Riffee received his BS in Pharmacy from West Virginia University in 1967 and then served as a Clinical Pharmacy Officer with the United States Public Health Service Commissioned Corps in the Division of Hospitals from 1967 until 1970.</p><p>He received his Ph.D. in pharmacology- in 1975 from The Ohio State University with a major research interest in behavioral effects and biochemical mechanisms of central nervous system stimulants.</p><p>He continued his research and teaching career in the Division of Pharmacology and Toxicology at the College of Pharmacy, The University of Texas from 1975 until May, 1996. During that period, his research interests focused on CNS stimulants and he studied the mechanism by which these agents induce a &quot;reverse tolerance&quot; and thereby elicit the neurochemical basis for &quot;stimulant-induced psychosis&quot;.</p><p>Since 1990, Dr. Riffee has concentrated his research and teaching efforts in the area of educational technology and its utility in the classroom. He is known nationally an innovator in the area of teaching and the use of television and computer-based presentation technology as well as the use of the computer as a learning tool. He has also been involved in the design and installation of electronic classrooms that incorporate video with computer workstations for student's use. He also chaired the Curriculum Committee of the College of Pharmacy of the University of Texas at Austin which implemented a dramatically new professional pharmacy curriculum in the Fall of 1996.</p><p>Since 1975, Dr. Riffee has been funded from the National Institutes of Mental Health and more recently through grants and contracts associated with teaching technology. Over the years, he has received nearly 2 million dollars in funding for his teaching and research efforts.</p><p>June 1, 1996, Dr. Riffee was named Dean and Professor, College of Pharmacy, The University of Florida. He continues his interest in educational technology as he pursues his work as an administrative officer of the University. He is a graduate of Wake Forest University School of Medicine. He completed his internship, residency and fellowship training in neuroanesthesia with an emphasis on neural monitoring at the Penn State University School of Medicine. He joined the Duke faculty in August of 1999.<br>  <br>In addition to his busy clinical practice, Dr. Taekman works industriously to expand the use of simulation in healthcare education and patient safety. He is active both locally and nationally on subjects related to computers, simulation, education, and patient safety. Dr. Taekman was elected Secretary and served on the Board of the Society for Simulation in Healthcare. He is a member of the editorial board of Simulation in Healthcare: the journal of the Society for Simulation in Healthcare. He rebuilt clinical departments in orthopaedics, cardiology and OB-GYN which have become market share leaders. As the dean of the nation's largest private medical school, he built on Drexel University's strengths in information sciences and biomedical engineering to lead the nation as the first completely wireless medical school, with video streamed lectures and virtual laboratories as supplements to the traditional curriculum. Riffee, PhD</strong><br><em>Dean <br>College of Pharmacy<br>University of Florida<br>Gainesville, FL</em></p><p>Dr. Riffee received his BS in Pharmacy from West Virginia University in 1967 and then served as a Clinical Pharmacy Officer with the United States Public Health Service Commissioned Corps in the Division of Hospitals from 1967 until 1970.</p><p>He received his Ph.D. in pharmacology- in 1975 from The Ohio State University with a major research interest in behavioral effects and biochemical mechanisms of central nervous system stimulants.</p><p>He continued his research and teaching career in the Division of Pharmacology and Toxicology at the College of Pharmacy, The University of Texas from 1975 until May, 1996. During that period, his research interests focused on CNS stimulants and he studied the mechanism by which these agents induce a &quot;reverse tolerance&quot; and thereby elicit the neurochemical basis for &quot;stimulant-induced psychosis&quot;.</p><p>Since 1990, Dr. Riffee has concentrated his research and teaching efforts in the area of educational technology and its utility in the classroom. He is known nationally an innovator in the area of teaching and the use of television and computer-based presentation technology as well as the use of the computer as a learning tool. He has also been involved in the design and installation of electronic classrooms that incorporate video with computer workstations for student's use. He also chaired the Curriculum Committee of the College of Pharmacy of the University of Texas at Austin which implemented a dramatically new professional pharmacy curriculum in the Fall of 1996.</p><p>Since 1975, Dr. Riffee has been funded from the National Institutes of Mental Health and more recently through grants and contracts associated with teaching technology. Over the years, he has received nearly 2 million dollars in funding for his teaching and research efforts.</p><p>June 1, 1996, Dr. Riffee was named Dean and Professor, College of Pharmacy, The University of Florida. He continues his interest in educational technology as he pursues his work as an administrative officer of the University.
