| Course Description |
| |
The goal of this course is to bring together experts in
the areas of neurodegeneration, neuroprotection and
imaging in MS and PD in order to improve knowledge
of these disabling disorders and how to treat them
more effectively.
Multiple Sclerosis (MS)
This course is designed to enhance neurologists
understanding of the immunopathogenesis of MS,
enhance their skills in the clinical diagnosis of MS,
increase awareness of emerging therapies including
post-ECTRIMS 2009 information and clarify the
physician’s likely role in treating patients with MS.
Parkinson Disease (PD)
Since PD is a common disorder with many treatments,
this course will address the proper diagnosis of PD
and its mimickers, as well as how to treat PD with
medications. Various neuroprotection and neuroimaging
modalities and their uses in parkinsonism will also be
discussed. |
| |
 |
|
| Gap Analysis |
| |
- Neurologists may not be aware of the latest
information regarding incorporation of
neuroimaging/MRI in the management
of their patients with Clinically Isolated
Syndrome in MS.
- Neurologists may not be confident making
clinical decisions related to the use of
immunomodulators used to treat MS without
full understanding of the mechanisms involved.
- Neurologists need the latest information related
to the pathogenesis of PD including the beneficial
aspects of neuroinflammation and identifying
non-motor symptoms.
|
| |
 |
|
| Target Audience |
| |
|
This program is designed for Neurologists, Neurology Residents, Fellows and Physicians, Nurses and Physician Assistants interested in the newest information in the treatment of patients with MS or PD.
|
| |
 |

should be able to:
- Recognize and manage early presentations of
MS and choose treatment strategies based on
results of long-term clinical and neuroimaging
follow-up studies
- Evaluate different approaches to clinical situations
and the emerging therapies in MS
- Report the role of 2009 ECTRIMS information for
MS therapies
- Interpret the role of neuroprotection in PD
and develop a differential diagnosis and basic
treatment plan
- Practice appropriate use of various neuroimaging
modalities in the diagnosis and treatment of
parkinsonian syndromes
