Course Description
 

This intensive Multiple Sclerosis update will review the most up to date information regarding MS, the treatment of MS, practical management of complex symptoms and a research update. The topics include information that those caring for patients with Multiple Sclerosis on disease modifying therapies need to be knowledgeable about in order to assist patients with understanding and long term compliance.

Target Audience
 
 

This program is designed for nurses and others interested in the newest information in the treatment of patients with Multiple Sclerosis.

 

 

Needs Assessment
 
 

MS is a complex disease of the central nervous system (CNS). The immunopathological mechanisms that underlie the disease are the basis for all disease modifying therapies that alter the natural history. MS can lead to substantial disability. Nurses caring for individuals diagnosed with MS need specialized knowledge about the disease, symptoms and treatments. It is extraordinarily challenging for nurses to keep apprised of the changes within the MS field and to integrate this new information into the treatment of patients.

 


Objectives
 

Upon completion of this program, participants will be able to:

  • Understand the latest criteria for the diagnosis of Multipe Sclerosis
  • Implement acute relapse management, and
    disease modifying therapies
  • Establish practical management of complex
    symptoms
  • Cite emerging research trials in MS
