Course Description

This two and a half day course will incorporate didactic presentations and hands-on labs including virtual reality simulation, that focus on the current status of diagnostic and operative hysteroscopy, endometrial ablation and hysteroscopic sterilization as well as the practicality of owning this equipment and performing hysteroscopies in the physician’s office. The course will feature didactic and hands-on training in diagnostic flexible hysteroscopy, hysteroscopic sterilization, global endometrial ablation techniques, resectoscopic myomectomy using both in-vitro and virtual reality trainers, as well as myomectomy utilizing hysteroscopic morcellation. The student will also develop an understanding of the female lower urinary tract and proper techniques to effectively perform a cystoscopic examination. Participants will also learn the skills necessary to perform a cystoscopy with hydrodistension and an office cystoscopy procedure. The course will also incorporate a section entitled “MBA in One Day”which will include information on finance, marketing and medical coding. As part of the registration fee, an Apple iPod touch will be given to each participant. It will contain all the conference presentations, surgical videos and will be an integral part of the conference. There are only 32 slots available, so please register right away.

Needs Assessment

Current data shows that only 10% of gynecologists perform office diagnostic hysteroscopy, and
even fewer performoperative, resectoscopic or hysteroscopic sterilization procedures. In addition, despite the
advent of numerous FDA approved global endometrial ablation techniques, the number of
hysterectomies performed has not significantly decreased. Surveys conducted by AAGL demonstrate that
patients prefer minimally invasive treatments for fibroids, as well as hysteroscopic sterilization.
As gynecologists continue to perform more advanced surgical procedures, the cystoscopic examination will
become an increasingly important tool. Cystoscopy with hydrodistention is also a valuable procedure for
gynecologists who evaluate and surgically treat pelvic pain.
There is clearly a need for gynecologists to be trained in all these techniques. |
