| Course Description |
| |
This course will explore new medical and surgical approaches in the diagnosis and management of patients with pituitary disorders. The focus will be on the day-to-day impact and management of pituitary disorders on metabolic and endocrine function in children, adolescents, and adults. Topics of interest include androgen deficiency in women, growth hormone replacement in children and adults, acromegaly, pituitary surgery, radiation therapy, nutritional interventions, head trauma, and cognitive impairment. |

This course is designed for physicians, psychologists, nurses, social workers and other healthcare professionals who care for patients with pituitary disorders, including specialists in endocrinology, internal medicine, neurosurgery, pediatrics, psychiatry, and radiation oncology.

| Objectives |
| |
|
Upon the completion of this program, the participant should be able to:
- Properly diagnose and manage pituitary disorders in children, adolescents, and adults.
- Describe the genetic causes of pituitary disorders.
- Discuss the importance of growth hormone during the transitional period from adolescent to adult.
- Discuss updates in the medical and surgical management of patients with pituitary disorders.
- Discuss cognitive changes in individuals with hypothalamic-pituitary disease and introduce new medical and behavioral therapies.
- Discuss head trauma and its role in pituitary hormone deficiency.
- Describe associated causes of osteoporosis and discuss options for treatment.
- Discuss the management of diabetes mellitus types I and II in hypopituitary patients.
- Recognize genetic and pathogenic causes of pituitary tumors.
- Describe new concepts in pituitary surgery.
- Evaluate cranial approaches to cavernous sinus tumors.
- Apply perioperative management of surgical patients
- Evaluate an unusual case of pediatric Cushing’s syndrome, including diagnosis and treatment.

Refund Policy
Registration fees will be refunded minus a cancellation fee of $75.00 for all cancellations received in writing before September 5, 2006. No refunds will be provided after September 5, 2006. The University of South Florida CPD Office reserves the right to cancel the program due to unforeseen circumstances, in which case the full enrollment fee will be refunded. The University of South Florida will not be responsible for travel expenses incurred by the participant if the course is cancelled. The CPD Office at the University of South Florida College of Medicine reserves the right to cancel this activity due to unforeseen circumstances. In the event of such cancellation, the full enrollment fee will be returned to the registrant. |
