Practice Parameters in Multiple Sclerosis

Cover

Course Description

This two day program will enable the healthcare provider
to develop guidelines for improving patient care in Multiple
Sclerosis (MS) and provide tools to help optimize therapy
in the care of MS patients. The course will also help
overcome challenges in the learning needs and “gaps in
knowledge” that neurologists routinely face, including but
not limited to the significance of the physician interpreting
the MRI results of their MS patients.

Gaps in Knowledge

MS continues to be the leading cause of non-traumatic
disability in young adults. Research and advances in
diagnostic techniques, the use of MRI and the effect of
different treatment strategies on MS continue to produce
discussion and controversy. The use of monoclonal
antibody therapies has shown promise, but safety issues
continue to be a concern.

In an effort to improve quality of life of MS patients,
identifying and treating the aspects of MS that cause
many symptoms such as gait dysfunction and pain are
critical. The loss of mobility is listed as one of the biggest
concerns for those diagnosed with MS. Pain is a
common, but under recognized, feature of MS.

Target Audience

This program is designed for Neurologists, Neurology
Residents, Fellows and Physicians, Nurses and Physician
Assistants interested in the newest information in the
treatment of patients with MS.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this CME activity, participants should be
able to:
  • Identify safety issues regarding current monoclonal antibody therapies for MS
  • Describe possible clinical strategies and controversies regarding safety monitoring with emerging therapies
  • Classify and treat aspects of MS that may result in pain
  • Analyze current use of conventional and non-conventional MRI in MS treatment
