Course Description
 

This course is designed to provide experienced clinical nurses with the tools they need to meet precepting challenges and help the new nurse or student and/or new healthcare employee develop personally and professionally.

The University of South Florida College of Nursing is accredited as a provider of continuing nursing education by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation.  This activity is for 6.0 contact hours.

 

 


Objectives
 
After attending this activity, participants should be able to:
  1. Apply knowledge of policies/procedures, unit standards, evidence-based practice, and adult learning principles to the orientation process.
  2. Develop and implement an individualized orientation plan for a new nurse or student and/or a new healthcare employee.
  3. Assess learning styles to facilitate teaching the new nurse or student and/or new healthcare employee in the three domains of learning.
  4. Recognize the four phases of transition a new nurse or studentand/or new healthcare employee must work through to move from preceptee to active team member.
  5. Identify the causes of interpersonal conflict and apply strategies to resolve conflict when it occurs.
