Needs Assessment/Course Description
 

Program sessions integrate the most current scientific and clinical information and incorporate case-based learning methods. A discussion period after each presentation will be used to clarify and debate issues. Participants will also have the opportunity to visit industry exhibits.

 



Target Audience
 

This program is designed to benefit Physicians, Nurses, Nurse Practitioners, Physician Assistants & Clinical Pharmacists.

 



Learning Objectives
 

Upon completion of this program, the participant should be able to:

  • Outline recent updates in advanced cardiac life support.
  • Apply the latest guidelines pertaining to the diagnosis and treatment of hospital and community acquired infections.
  • Formulate and integrate an evidencebased approach to improve pain control in the acute setting.
  • Identify effective strategies for maximizing successful outcomes in the stroke patient.
  • Explain the role of lipid therapy in acute medical illness.
  • Describe effective strategies for the management of hyperglycemia in the hospital.
  • Describe the latest advances in the treatment of venous thromboembolism.
  • Summarize current approaches to the management of hyponatremia.
  • Diagnose and treat COPD in the hospital.
  • Identify specific issues and challenges associated with the care of the elderly in the acute setting.
  • Interpret common heart rhythms and abnormal EKG patterns.
  • Incorporate ethical principles into end-oflife decision making.
  • Evaluate effective strategies for managing acute congestive heart failure.
  • Appropriately utilize cardiac CT in the evaluation of chest pain.

Physicians: This activity has been planned and implemented in accordance with the Essential Areas and Policies of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) through the joint sponsorship of the University of South Florida College of Medicine and CEConsultants, LLC. The University of South Florida College of Medicine is accredited by the ACCME to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

The University of South Florida College of Medicine designates this educational activity for a maximum of 8 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit(s)™. Physicians should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

Pharmacists: The University of South Florida College of Medicine is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education as a provider of continuing pharmacy education. This program has been approved for 8 contact hours. Universal program number (UPN) is as follows: 230-999-08-010-L04-P. To receive continuing education credit, a pharmacist must attend the accredited sessions and must return the program evaluation instrument. In order to receive full credit, registrants must register no later than 10 minutes after the start of the meeting and must attend the entire meeting. All Participants who are requesting Pharmacy Credit should expect to receive their statement of credit either on-site or within 4 weeks by U.S. Mail upon the conclusion of the activity.

Nurses (ANC): The University of South Florida College of Nursing is accredited as a provider of continuing nursing education by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation. This activity is for 8 contact hours.

ONSITE Registration: $135
Onsite fee applies to participants that register on the day of the event, September 19, 2008.

The registration fee includes the program, syllabus, breaks, continental breakfast, lunch and optional evening activities. Refunds are issued only for meetings which are canceled by the education provider.

Parking is FREE at this venue. Garage parking is available on a first come first served
