| Course Description |

This course, focusing on trends and issues in nursing practice, provides a comprehensive examination of nursing informatics theories, the impact of human factors on nursing informatics, systems analysis and design approaches. Methods for managing information databases and systems and evaluating computer technology systems will be included. The content is useful for both the novice nurse informaticist enhancing her/his knowledge base and the advanced nurse informaticist preparing for the ANCC Nursing Informatics Certification Exam.
Certified informatics nurses who are true pioneers in the field of nursing informatics conduct the course. The WINI faculty was awarded the Sigma Theta Tau International Information Technology Award for Knowledge Advancement. Come learn from the experts! |

This course is designed to meet the needs of nurses who are interested in enhancing and expanding their knowledge in nursing informatics and nurses who are preparing for the ANCC Nursing Informatics Examination.

| Objectives |

Upon the completion of this program, the participant should be able to:
- Examine theories, models, and frameworks that could be used in healthcare and nursing informatics practice, education, administration and research domains.
- Distinguish among the terms human factors, ergonomics, human-computer interactions and usability.
- Discuss the human factors that affect nursing informatics.
- Apply nursing informatics theories and human factors principals to practice through group discussion and modeling.
- Discuss system planning concepts.
- Discuss market analysis techniques for informatics solutions.
- Describe available hardware, software and communications components for a healthcare information management solution.
- Distinguish standards and terminologies that affect the information system life cycle.
- Identify strategies to establish a solution.
- Develop an implementation plan and project management plan for an information systems plan.
- Evaluate the implementation of a healthcare IS solutions.
- Identify opportunities to contribute to local, state, national and international informatics initiatives
- Assess readiness to complete the ANCC certification examination for nursing informatics.

This activity for 16.5 contact hours is provided by the University of South Florida College of Nursing, which is accredited as a provider of continuing education in nursing by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation. The course will be held at the Quorum Hotel in Tampa, Florida. The hotel is located just one mile from Tampa International Airport and offers complimentary airport shuttle and complimentary transportation within 5 miles of the hotel. Complimentary garage parking is also provided. It is minutes from great area restaurants and wonderful Florida attractions such as Busch Gardens, The Florida Aquarium, our great Gulf Beaches and the International Plaza and Bay Street, celebrated as the most distinctive shopping and dining destination on Florida’s west coast.
A block of rooms has been reserved for course registrants at the rate of $99 per night plus the prevailing tax rate (currently 21%). This rate is valid from November 16-November 22, 2005.
